Adidas London (or are they?)

For reasons known only to themselves, Size? and Adidas have come together in a joyous union to release another set of limited edition trainers. As long as you don't mind queuing up for hours on end only to be disappointed (not a problem if you're a Swansea fan) then these will be just what you are looking for. No doubt they'll be £200+ on EBay mere minutes after they are released to the public but I guess that's the current (Adidas) economic climate we live in. They look suspiciously like Amsterdam, Brussel, Bern and Malmo to me though.....

Pet Shop Boys Cardiff 21.07.10

Going through some pictures on my phone, I found these from the recent Pet Shop Boys gig at the CIA in Cardiff on the 21/07/10. The quality isn't great but gives an idea of the unique stage show that night. After reading the Casuals book by Phil Thornton I felt compelled to see them and even donned a Fila Settanta tracksuit top to make sure I looked the part.

Ian Brown Date Announced

For any Ian Brown fans out there, a gig at Nottingham Rock City has been announced taking place on Thursday 16th December. Presale tickets can be bought here: Ian Brown Presale from 09:00 on Thursday 2nd September and support will come from Detroit Social Club.

Our Proving Grounds (3) Newport (Pembrokeshire)

Much to the bewilderment of the locals, I stopped here on the way to the beach in West Wales on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon (08/08/2010) to get a few snaps of this local pitch. It would appear that although the goals are full-size, the pitch is probably less than three quarters of the size of a regular pitch.

On the Books

Whilst killing an hour for lunch I popped into HMV and 10 minutes later came out with the following 3 books for a mere £12.

Items I Don't Need But Bought Anyway #3

My final sales fling ended with 3 purchases from Glass Boutique. Firstly a Universal Works Baker's jacket, secondly a Universal Works shirt and last but not least a red/blue check shirt by Won Hundred.

Tom Simpson 1937 - 1967

Tom Simpson is a name that many will be unfamiliar with. Indeed until recently I too was unaware of his existence and untimely death. In this day and age of reality TV 'stars', warbling nobodies and pantomime hard men, Simpson was a cyclist who simply would not give up, resulting in his death climbing the treacherous Ventoux during the 1967 Tour de France.
An iconic cyclist of the 1960's, Tom Simpson had a unique drive and ability. He was the first British cyclist to become a major cycling star winning the World Championship in 1965. Tragically, Simpson died during the 1967 Tour de France while climbing Mont Ventoux. Even more shocking was the revelation that Simpson had packets of amphetamines in his back pocket and the use of drugs had been a contributory factor in his untimely death. Yet, despite his tragic death, he is held in high regard by the cycling fraternity. A monument was erected to Tom Simpson near to where he collapsed on Mont Ventoux which receives thousands of visitors every year. To get a more complete picture of the man himself I have just ordered the book below.

Our Proving Grounds (2) Cardiff City

The Cardiff City stadium. Photos taken during the game v Burton Albion (report below). Not as intimidating as the previous ground across the road at Ninian Park (now sadly a housing development) but an identikit boring bowl just like any other new ground. The pictures aren't too great as they were taken with my mobile.

Clothing Sale

Over the next few weeks I'll be having a sale on many items I have decided to part with (most of which I'm sure I'll regret in the future!). Rather than put them on EBay I've decided to sell them through this site, so keep your eyes peeled and you might pick up a few bargains.

Items I Don't Need But Bought Anyway #2

With Autumn on it's way, I bagged the following 3 jackets recently. The Penfield PacJac and Vassan were down to £45 apiece from Present in London and the Garbstore Mountain Providence Parka was considerably less than the original RRP of £340.

Items I Don't Need But Bought Anyway #1

Rather than queue up at Size? at all hours for the latest terrible re-release of the Manchester's or Dublin's I've bought a few pairs from EBay for a fraction of the resale price of the aforementioned trainers. First up is a pair of tennis low which are new and unworn and I picked up for the bargain price of £50.

Secondly are a pair I've been after for a while, Kegler Super.

Last but not least are a pair of Comp C2 which I picked up for the princely sum of £26.

Our Proving Grounds (1) Saron FC

Following a holiday in West Wales I came across the ground of Saron FC who play in the Ceredigion League division 2.

Cardiff City v Burton Albion 11.08.10

In front of a crowd of just over 6,000 the scoreline suggests an easy Cardiff victory, however it took a further 30 minutes of extra time for Cardiff to eventually show their class against a stubborn Burton side. Bothroyd opened the scoring for Cardiff in the 17th minute after Whittingham sprung the offside trap to square for the striker to slot home. 2 minutes later some sloppy defensive play gifted Burton a well taken equaliser which was how the game stayed until the introduction of Ross McCormack and Jason Koumas. 3 goals in the final 12 minutes from McCormack (2) and Chopra sent Cardiff through to the second round where the mouthwatering prospect of an away trip to Peterborough awaits. One incident of note occurred at the final whistle as Ross McCormack, not so much threw but passed his shirt into the crowd of the Ninian Stand. Is Ross leaving? It would certainly seem that way.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to my new blog. I am a 30 year old Cardiff City fan with an unhealthy obsession for clothes and trainers.
